If you suffer an injury as a result of somebody else’s negligence, you may be entitled to seek compensation against that other party.* An injury sustained as a result of this accident can obviously have physical effects but may also result in financial, psychological and emotional issues for you. It can be just a short term effect or have long-term consequences for you.
Personal injuries are often associated with road traffic accidents but can also occur at work, in a public place or on a premises open to the public such as a shop or supermarket. It is important to remember that a local authority is obliged to maintain and repair roads, footpaths, etc. and if you suffer an injury due to a road or footpath being left in a dangerous condition, you may be entitled to compensation. Equally, an employer or the owner of a public premises is obliged to keep an employee or visitor as safe as possible from personal injury while on their premises and if they fail to take adequate safeguards in this regard and you suffer a personal injury, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.
In personal injury actions, it is important to remember that the applicant only has a two-year period from the date that the injury occurred in which to initiate action. Therefore, it is important to get advice as soon as possible after the accident occurs so as to determine whether or not you should bring a claim. We guide all our clients through all stages of this process by firstly taking detailed instructions and then, if necessary, completing the Injuries Board application form and submitting same on your behalf.
In the event that the other party or their insurer either not consenting to the matter being assessed by the Injuries Board or subsequently not agreeing to the assessment of compensation or indeed if you yourself are not satisfied with the amount of compensation awarded from the Injuries Board, then you as the claimant will be able to pursue your claim through the courts in the normal fashion and we will provide full representation in all courts in respect of all court actions as are required thereafter.
